Central Sterile Processing Technician - Certified

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager and according to approved policies and procedures, the incumbent will assemble case carts containing consumable supplies and instrumentation. Post-operative instruments will be clean/decontaminated, assembled, sterilized and stored until ready to be issued. Consumables will be inventoried, stocked and issued as needed.

  • Full time Day and Evening shift

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consistently supports the hospital's standards, in line with the Mission, Vision and values of St. Joseph Medical Center
  • Follows the Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)
  • Promotes a culture of safety for patients and associates through proper identification, proper reporting:
    • Expanded hours will allow previously canceled procedures to be scheduled as quickly as possible
    • Any COVID-19 related care takes place in designated areas away from other patients and their families
    • Emergency Departments are reorganized to be a safe place to treat all emergency patients
  • The ability to read and write information communicated via a case cart requisition or count sheet
  • Ability to follow verbal orders received on the telephone
  • Analytical skills are necessary to accurately fill surgical case carts and assemble surgical instrument sets
  • Ability to perform basic computer functions
  • The ability to stand and walk approximately eighty percent of the shift
  • The ability to work with blood and body substances

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Veterans/Disabled

  • One year experience preferred working with surgical supplies and instruments
  • Registered Central Service Technician (RCST), Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD) or must complete certification within one year of employment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
